RENO -- The Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District Board of Fire Commissioners (TMFPD) directed their staff Tuesday to work with staff from the City of Reno to develop an Automatic Aid agreement suitable to both agencies.
Automatic Aid is when the nearest fire station immediately responds to an emergency regardless of jurisdictional lines, much the way it worked under the Consolidated Fire Department. With TMFPD's decision to deconsolidate they are asking the City of Reno to provide primary response to areas of their district they cannot serve at their established service levels. Automatic Aid agreements typically do not include personnel staffing related matters, and typically are reciprocal, with each agency providing like level of service to each other.
The Reno City Council remains committed to serving Reno residents at the highest level, with full staffing, specialized teams like Water Rescue and HazMat, and the depth of resources unmatched by TMFPD. They have established that any form of interagency assistance must be equitable. The City of Reno remains open to an agreement that serves the public safety and financial needs of both jurisdictions.
Mutual Aid is different from Automatic Aid. Mutual Aid is when one fire department contacts another and asks for assistance. Almost all the regional and state fire services have ongoing mutual aid agreeements. For example, during the Caughlin Fire, 54 agencies provided Mutual Aid. The City of Reno will continue providing Mutual Aid to all local and state agencies, including Washoe County.
RENO -- Police are investigating a single vehicle roll-over crash that claimed the life of one woman and sent her sister to a local hospital with what are believed to be minor injuries.
Reno Police received a call at around 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday night reporting a crash on Sky Vista Parkway about a quarter mile west of Vista Knoll. When emergency crews arrived, they found both occupants still in the vehicle.
The driver, 32-year-old Bonita Jessica German, was pronounced dead at the scene. Her sister, age 14, was transported to a local hospital where she is in stable condition.
It had been raining and hailing in the area of the crash shortly before but the cause of the accident remains unknown at this time including any factors weather may have played.
Anyone having information related to this incident should contact the Reno Police Department at 334-2115, Secret Witness at 322-4900, www.secretwitness.com, or text the tip to 847411 (TIP 411) keyword - SW Tue, 15 May 2012 23:09:55 -0700
The local community has a new resource to find out how all restaurants scored during food inspection tests.
Food inspection scores for thousands of Washoe County restaurants and food facilities are now available to the public at http://washoeeats.washoecounty.us . Now not only will county residents have access to how local eateries fared during inspections, but they, and anyone else who wishes to visit the site, should gain a greater understanding of the work the Health District conducts during food inspections. The new website received a full review of the Washoe County District Board of Health yesterday at the regularly scheduled board meeting.
According to Washoe County District Health Officer Dr. Joseph Iser, the new WashoeEats website will benefit the public and the Health District. "The public will have immediate ability to review the food safety practices at their favorite eateries or new restaurants they want to explore. In the past, diners might have had to wait for a published food review or news story. Now the information will be available at a touch of their fingertips. The Health District will have a new education tool that should increase the public’s understanding of food safety practices in general," said Iser. He added that with the public being more aware of food safety practices, they may be more likely to readily communicate food safety issues they encounter, essentially creating many more sets of eyes assisting public health inspectors.
The origins of the WashoeEats project began in 2009, with the Board of Health’s interest in making these records more readily available to the public. This launch is considered the completion of Phase I, when the initial infrastructure is in place and the website is fully functional. The Health District and Washoe County Technology Services are fully committed to continuous improvement through Phase 2, when any troubleshooting, incorporation of recommendations from the public, and the creation of a mobile phone application are planned.
Data on the new site goes back to 2008 and is updated daily. Inspections should be available the day after they are completed with history of establishments available to the site user.
For more information on WashoeEats contact Washoe County Health District Environmental Health Services Division at (775) 328-2434.
